President John Dramani Mahama today hosts key civil society organisations (CSOs) at Jubilee House for a high-level dialogue on tackling illegal mining, widely known as galamsey.
The meeting, scheduled for 12:00 noon, brings together government officials and CSO leaders to discuss sustainable solutions to the environmental and social harm caused by the practice.
In an earlier letter signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the Presidency explains that the engagement provides “a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between government and civil society, with a view to harnessing collective expertise and perspectives to address this national challenge.”
The dialogue takes place against the backdrop of growing public concern over the destruction of water bodies, forest reserves, and farmlands, with increasing pressure on government to take decisive action.
