President John Mahama has announced plans to implement a comprehensive programme dubbed the “Green Bono Agenda” to address emerging environmental challenges in the Bono Region.
He explained that the initiative will focus on afforestation, protection of water resources, and climate-resilient agriculture to combat deforestation, water scarcity, and land degradation.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and residents at the Sunyani Jubilee Park as part of his Thank You Tour, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring degraded forests, improving access to safe drinking water, and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
“The Green Bono Agenda will involve the Bono Regional Coordinating Council and local communities to ensure successful implementation,” he stated.
He also emphasised the vital role of traditional authorities in peacebuilding and environmental stewardship, pledging constitutional reforms to strengthen the House of Chiefs and empower them in local governance and sanitation oversight.
“Chiefs are not merely custodians of tradition but vital partners in progressive development,” he said.
For his part, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, commended President Mahama for his inclusive leadership and youth-focused appointments.
He also praised the government’s efforts to stabilise the cedi, projecting a GH₵5 to $1 exchange rate by the end of the year.
Osagyefo Badu II further called for transparency and accountability in the National Cathedral project, urging the recovery of all misused public funds.
