President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s determination to modernise Ghana’s transport and logistics industry, promising wide-ranging reforms aimed at job creation, trade expansion, and alignment with both global and continental development goals.

Speaking at the opening of the maiden Ghana Transport and Logistics Fair 2025 on Wednesday, he linked his pledge to the 2024 campaign manifesto and the Resetting Ghana Agenda, reaffirming his administration’s focus on safety, innovation, accessibility, and sustainability.

“My administration is fully committed to building a safe, accessible, and technology-driven transport system that supports job creation, enhances trade, and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063,” he stated.

The three-day fair, themed “Resetting Ghana’s Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation, and Investment,” is being held at the World Trade Centre in Accra.

It is organised by the Ministry of Transport in partnership with agencies such as the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Shippers Authority, Ghana Railways, and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.

The event brings together key players from government, industry, and academia to promote innovation and investment across all modes of transport.

President Mahama described the fair as a defining moment for the nation’s infrastructure ambitions, signalling a collective effort to transform Ghana’s transport landscape.

“Transport is the heartbeat of every economy. It opens markets, creates opportunities, boosts productivity, and fosters inclusive national development,” he remarked.

He emphasised the need for stronger public-private collaboration to enhance efficiency in the movement of people and goods.

Among his outlined priorities were the modernisation of rail, road, maritime, and aviation systems, and the integration of these networks to facilitate seamless travel and cargo movement within Ghana and across the sub-region.

The President also touched on the country’s green transition efforts, noting ongoing initiatives to reduce emissions, expand electric mobility infrastructure, and promote climate-resilient investments.

Additionally, he announced plans for a robust regulatory framework to guide the operation of motorcycles and tricycles, popularly called Okada, ensuring passenger safety while maintaining affordability and accessibility in public transport.

The Ghana Transport and Logistics Fair 2025, he added, underscores government’s vision of delivering a modern, sustainable, and job-creating transport system that positions Ghana as a leader in innovative mobility solutions across West Africa.
