President John Dramani Mahama has hosted Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa at a state banquet held in his honour, as part of the ongoing three-day State Visit to Ghana.

The event celebrated the long-standing relationship between Ghana and Zimbabwe, with President Mahama highlighting the deep historical bonds between the two nations.

He noted that their connection dates back to the era of Africa’s liberation struggles, shaped by leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah and the late Robert Mugabe.

According to President Mahama, the ties between both countries go beyond formal diplomacy, rooted in shared ideals of freedom, dignity, and Pan-African unity. He described the banquet as a celebration of a relationship strengthened by history and sustained through mutual respect and cooperation.

President Mnangagwa, for his part, acknowledged Ghana’s role in Zimbabwe’s liberation, revealing that many of his compatriots received training in Ghana during the struggle for independence. He expressed gratitude for the support and emphasised the importance of building stronger economic partnerships between the two countries.

The visit also featured an exchange of symbolic gifts, with President Mnangagwa receiving traditional Ghanaian items, including fugu and kente, while presenting a gift to President Mahama in return.

The state banquet aimed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, and sustainable development, as both countries seek to deepen their historic partnership.
