Mahama honours fallen Air Force Officers with Posthumous promotions

President John Dramani Mahama has conferred posthumous promotions on three Ghana Air Force personnel who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash, in recognition of what he called their “service and sacrifice to the nation.”

Speaking as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces at an interfaith funeral service at Independence Square on Friday, August 15, 2025, Mr. Mahama said the fallen servicemen embodied dedication and professionalism, and their loss was a tragedy for the entire country.

Those honoured were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, promoted to Wing Commander; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, promoted to Flight Lieutenant; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, promoted to Flight Sergeant.

The ceremony brought together government officials, the military high command, bereaved families, and mourners from across Ghana.

Mr. Mahama pledged continued government support for the families, adding that the men’s “legacy of loyalty and commitment will forever be remembered.”
