Mahama embarks on official visits to Japan and Singapore

President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday, August 17, departed Accra for official visits to Japan and Singapore as part of efforts to deepen Ghana’s trade, investment, and development partnerships.

In Japan, he will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to address a plenary session on promoting trade and investment. He will also lead a Ghana Presidential Investment Forum to showcase opportunities under his “Resetting Ghana” agenda.

A statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, noted that the President will hold high-level meetings with key partners, including the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), officials of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The discussions are expected to focus on trade, infrastructure, technical cooperation, and investment partnerships.

From Tokyo, President Mahama will proceed to Singapore for a three-day state visit. His itinerary includes a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. He will also address an investment forum where he is expected to outline Ghana’s reform plans and encourage Singaporean businesses to explore investment opportunities in the country.

According to the Presidency, the visits are anticipated to attract more investment, expand market access for Ghanaian products, and strengthen cooperation in technology, finance, infrastructure, and human capital development.
