President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Mahama ICT Centre in Damongo in the Savannah Region as part of efforts to strengthen technology-driven education and digital skills training.

The commissioning formed part of activities during President Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana” tour of the Savannah Region.

According to a post shared by the Presidency on Facebook, President Mahama described the facility as an important complement to the government’s Basic Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (BSTEM) programme.

He explained that the ICT centre would support practical learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, particularly in the area of information and communications technology.

The President noted that the facility comes at a crucial time following the rollout of the BSTEM programme in the region and is expected to create opportunities for students and young people to develop digital and technical skills.

President Mahama also expressed satisfaction that the centre is powered entirely by solar energy.

According to him, the facility serves as a “green lab” that aligns with sustainable development goals and the promotion of environmentally friendly technology.

The ICT centre is expected to function as a hub for ICT training and innovation within the Savannah Region while supporting broader efforts to improve access to technology-based education.
