President John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly constituted Hajj Board to adopt a fully digitised system to address the increasing number of applicants and improve communication with prospective pilgrims.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Board on Friday, November 14, President Mahama said an electronic system would ease congestion at registration centres, curb fraud, and enhance the accuracy of data management.
The new Board is chaired by Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, with Shaibu Mahama as Administrator. Other members include Dr Abdul-Samed Tanko, Alimatu Issahak, Alhaji Amadu Tanko, Alhaji Masaud Abubakar, and Chief Ahmed Ibrahim.
President Mahama encouraged the Board to maintain professionalism and deliver an efficient and well-coordinated Hajj operation that meets the expectations of Ghana’s Muslim pilgrims.
He urged the adoption of digital tools such as e-registration, SMS notifications, and a dedicated Hajj mobile application that would allow pilgrims to register, track application status, make payments, and access travel information.
The President further directed the Board to submit a detailed report at the end of each Hajj season to the Office of the Chief of Staff, covering safety, expenditures, and logistics, adding that its activities must be guided by clear regulations.
