Mahama calls for bold global action on women’s empowerment

President John Dramani Mahama has called on world leaders and development partners to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing on Monday, October 13, President Mahama said it was time for governments to transform their commitments into practical measures that improve the lives of women and girls, particularly across Africa.

“The African woman is particularly vulnerable, and I wish to use this platform to call on my colleague African leaders to focus on the welfare and empowerment of our women,” he stated.

He noted that gender equality is not only a matter of fairness but a key driver of sustainable development.

“When women succeed, families thrive, communities become stronger, and nations progress,” he emphasized.

President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s progress in promoting women’s empowerment, adding that investments in women contribute significantly to productivity, innovation, and social stability.

“As we look to Beijing, I call on all governments and partners to move beyond platitudes and commit to transformative action,” he urged, stressing that the moment should mark a turning point in global efforts toward gender equality.

He concluded by calling for renewed collective resolve to make the coming decade one of “bold progress and shared prosperity for women and girls worldwide.”
