President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Kingston to begin a four-day state visit aimed at strengthening Ghana’s longstanding relationship with Jamaica, deepening Africa-Caribbean cooperation and advancing the global campaign for reparatory justice.
The President arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on Sunday, August 2, where he was received by a high-level Jamaican delegation.
The visit marks another milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two Commonwealth countries and is expected to deepen cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, culture and governance.
Ghana and Jamaica share deep historical and cultural ties rooted in their common African heritage, with decades of diplomatic engagement continuing to strengthen relations between the two nations.
A major highlight of President Mahama’s visit will be discussions on reparatory justice. Both Ghana and Jamaica have consistently advocated greater international recognition of the enduring effects of the transatlantic slave trade, slavery and colonialism, while calling for meaningful dialogue and appropriate reparative measures for affected communities.
Beyond reparatory justice, the visit is expected to create new opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, education, tourism, agriculture and the creative industries.
The engagements are also expected to focus on expanding commercial partnerships and strengthening people-to-people exchanges as both countries seek to leverage their shared history for mutual development.
