Former President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to construct six state-of-the-art sports stadia across Ghana’s newly created regions.
Speaking during the Western North Region stop of his ‘Thank You Tour’ after securing re-election as President, Mr. Mahama revealed that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, led by Minister Kofi Adams, is currently overseeing the design phase of the stadium projects.
“Under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions, as well as in other regions that currently lack such infrastructure,” he said while addressing a gathering of local leaders and residents.
The proposed initiative aims to promote equal access to quality sports infrastructure nationwide, with a particular focus on bridging developmental gaps in under-resourced regions.
Ghana’s six new regions — Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo — were created following a national referendum aimed at enhancing governance and accelerating local development. Their creation increased Ghana’s administrative regions from ten to sixteen.
