Mahama announces Ghana-US partnership to address visa overstays

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that Ghana will work closely with the United States government to tackle the problem of visa overstays, particularly among Ghanaian students and tourists.

Speaking at the Jubilee House during the commissioning of 11 newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners, the President said the U.S. government’s recent removal of visa restrictions on Ghana reflected his administration’s commitment to addressing the issue.

He urged Ghanaians to avoid overstaying their visas, stressing that both governments are determined to sustain the goodwill, which has also secured a five-year multiple-entry visa arrangement for Ghanaian travelers.

President Mahama further disclosed that discussions are ongoing with the U.S. to review the 15% trade tariff imposed on Ghana under the Trump administration.
