Madina MCE alleges arson, plot to seize state land in recent Ritz Junction fire outbreaks

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang-Madina, Ibrahim Faila Fuseini, has alleged that the recurring fires at Ritz Junction in Madina are part of a deliberate scheme by an individual seeking to take control of state land.

According to him, the land in question is government-owned and cannot be claimed for private use.

Mr. Fuseini made the claim in an interview with Accra-based Citi News following the latest fire outbreak on Sunday, August 3, 2025, which destroyed several makeshift wooden and metal structures near the Madina Redco Flats.

While the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has attributed the incident to a gas explosion, the MCE expressed suspicion over what he described as a pattern—three fire outbreaks in the same area within the past three months.

“All indications suggest that this is a deliberate act by one person. Within three months, there have been three fire outbreaks in the same location,” he said. “After each incident, this individual appears to engage the Lands Commission in an effort to clear the area.”

He revealed that the Assembly has requested an official report from the GNFS and pledged firm action to protect the land from encroachment.

“I am waiting for the final report. If it confirms the same name, I will take legal action and cause the arrest of the individual. We will pursue this matter through every legal means available. Under the current leadership, that land will not be handed over,” Mr. Fuseini stated.

The MCE added that the GNFS report is expected next week and assured that the issue would be resolved within a month.
