Madanfo Ghana Foundation has constructed and commissioned a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, complete with nurses’ quarters, in Dzilakope, a fishing community in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region.
Previously, community members had to travel three hours across the Oti River to reach Kete-Krachi for medical attention due to limited healthcare access.
The new facility, serving over 10,000 residents, features a general outpatient department (OPD), delivery room, consulting rooms, labor ward, nurses’ station, and staff accommodation.

During the commissioning, Deputy Country Director Encok Sunday Attipoe highlighted Madanfo Ghana’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility, especially in rural areas. He said the foundation was motivated by heartbreaking cases of people losing their lives while traveling long distances on the Volta Lake for treatment.
“We hope this facility will transform healthcare delivery in Dzilakope, where people have died from treatable ailments and snake bites,” he stated. He urged the community to maintain the facility to ensure its long-term benefits.

Evans Ahiaba, Director of Health Services for Krachi West, praised the foundation for creating a facility that will help reduce maternal and infant mortality and promote child welfare, antenatal and postnatal care, health education, and counseling. He noted that Dzilakope residents had been seeking such a facility for 20 years and described it as one of the best in the municipality.
Community members, including Nana Osamakoe, expressed deep gratitude to Madanfo Ghana Foundation, noting the dangers pregnant women, children, and sick individuals faced traveling across the lake for hours. The new facility will save residents money on fuel and allow them to access healthcare promptly.
