Lotus Mining Group denies involvement in illegal mining at Akyem Nanapa

Lotus Mining Group, a mining company operating in Akyem Nanapa in the Atiwa West District, has denied allegations of engaging in illegal mining activities, insisting that it operates strictly within the bounds of the law.

The company’s response follows concerns raised by chiefs and residents about the environmental and social impact of illegal mining—commonly known as galamsey—on the community.

In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Lotus Mining Group, Thomas Larbi, called for calm and reassured the public of the company’s dedication to ethical mining practices.

“We are not involved in any illegal mining. Our operations are legal, and we are committed to supporting the development of the Nanapa community,” Mr. Larbi stated.

He also disclosed that the company plans to assist local farmers by constructing access roads to help ease the transportation of farm produce—one of the major concerns attributed to mining activities in the area.

Mr. Larbi further highlighted previous development projects undertaken by the company and revealed that special accounts have been established to finance future community development initiatives.

Meanwhile, some opinion leaders in Nanapa have appealed for calm among residents, particularly farmers, amid rising tensions.

They assured the community that efforts are underway to resolve the issues through dialogue and collaboration with all stakeholders.
