Letter from Chairman Ntim’s family was unfortunate and unnecessary – Justin Kodua

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has criticised the family of party Chairman Stephen Ntim over a letter they issued concerning his health condition.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kodua described the letter as unfortunate and unnecessary, questioning both its intent and appropriateness.

In a letter dated June 16, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, the Ntim family requested the temporary withdrawal of Mr. Ntim from all political activities. They cited his deteriorating health, the need for urgent medical attention, and the importance of rest.

The family also objected to his participation in a scheduled party meeting on June 17 at the Alisa Hotel, saying it could pose serious health risks and potentially violate his personal rights.

Responding to the concerns, Mr. Kodua said the letter was misplaced, stating that there had been no prior communication from Mr. Ntim himself regarding any health challenges.

“The NPP voted for Chairman Stephen Ntim, not his family,” Kodua stressed. “He hasn’t written any letter to inform us that he is unwell. In any case, Article 10 of the party’s constitution allows the First Vice Chairman to step in when the Chairman is unavailable, so I don’t know what the letter sought to achieve.”

He further explained that nobody is forcing Mr. Ntim to attend any meeting.

“If there is a meeting and Chairman Ntim wants to attend, he will drive there himself without being forced. So, the letter was unfortunate and unnecessary. There wasn’t even a medical report attached to support their claims,” he added.

Mr. Kodua’s comments have stirred public discussion about internal communication and protocol within political parties, especially when personal matters like health intersect with party leadership responsibilities.
