The National Chief Imam has called on Ghanaians to continue being religiously tolerant of each other and avoid acts that could lead to religious conflicts in the country.
The Chief Imam urged Ghanaians, irrespective of religious differences, to put their efforts together and use religion as instrument for national development.
Lead Adviser to the National Chief Imam, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq, who spoke on behalf of Chief Imam, said “our nationality should be more important than that of our religious beliefs.”
According to him, the time has come for the citizenry to understand that the common interest of humanity is to promote peace and unity and not violence.
He was speaking at a donation ceremony where the Kristo Asafo Mission donated various items to the Chief Imam.
Items donated included rice, sugar, goat, milo, milk and an undisclosed amount of money among others.
“Religion has greater role to play in national development. Our nationality should be more important to us than our religious beliefs and so let’s avoid violence and seek for peace in all we do,” he urged.
Spokesperson for Apostle Kwadwo Safo, Founder of Kristo Asafo Christ Reformed Church, Nana Yaw Amoako, said the reason for the donation was to strengthen the peace and unity that exists between Christians and Muslims in the country.
He took the opportunity to urge the youth in the country to desist from all politically related violence and work hard for peace.
“Our aim for the donation is to strengthen the peace and unity that have existed between Muslims and Christians for years. I urge the youth to desist from all forms of political violence and work hard to promote peace,” he urged.
