Let’s support Otto Addo to succeed – Mark Ashley urges Ghanaians

-

The Chairman of the Otto Addo Fan Club, Mark Ashley, has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars head coach, insisting that Otto Addo has what it takes to lead the national team to success if given the needed support.

According to him, the coach has shown commitment and resilience through challenging times and deserves the chance to continue building the team.

At a press conference, he emphasised that instead of demanding Otto Addo’s removal, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should focus on strengthening the technical bench to enhance performance.

“Otto Addo has made a lot of sacrifices for the team. It’s about time we maintain him and give him the necessary support to carry on with his good work,” Mr. Ashley told the press.

His comments come amid mounting public criticism of Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Many football fans and pundits questioned his tactical decisions and team selections, urging the GFA to consider a new technical direction.

Despite the backlash, Otto Addo has since redeemed his reputation by guiding the Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, finishing top of Group I with 25 points.

The 49-year-old tactician was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract, with an option for a two-year extension. Under his leadership, the team has shown steady improvement, earning praise for blending experienced players with young talents.

The Black Stars are expected to learn their group stage opponents for the World Cup on December 5, and Mark Ashley believes this marks a crucial opportunity for Ghanaians to unite behind the team.

“Otto Addo has proven that he can do the job. Let’s support him to succeed,” he added.
