Late Alhaji Muniru was one of Mahama’s most trusted envoys – Ofosu Ampofo

Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has paid a glowing tribute to the late Alhaji Mohammed Muniru, describing him as one of President John Mahama’s most reliable and results-oriented envoys.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo revealed that his friendship with the late Minister for Food and Agriculture began about 25 years ago when they both studied at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

“We go way back. Whenever he visited my home, we would sit on the floor and watch TV together. He was very hardworking, and I can say he was one of President Mahama’s trusted envoys,” he said.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo recounted that during his time as Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Muniru’s dedication and vision were evident to all.

“If President Mahama needed someone to get something done in the Northern Region, it was Muniru. He was a very trusted lieutenant who always delivered results,” he noted.

According to him, much of the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator’s work was carried out quietly, away from public attention.

“He took care of President Mahama’s farms and was recently appointed to a new role. Sadly, on his very first official trip, he met his untimely death,” he recounted.

The Board Chairman of COCOBOD and Policy Advisor to the Vice President also revealed that he had personal ties with many of the victims of the tragic incident, making the loss even more painful.

The crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of Alhaji Muniru and seven other people, including two ministers.

The deceased were: Minister of Defence Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Vice Chairman of the NDC Samuel Sarpong, Acting NADMO boss Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
