The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has listed 907 small-scale mining licenses at risk of being revoked as part of efforts to sanitise the mining sector.

In a report presented to the Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on Monday, July 21, 2025, a total of 1,278 licenses had been reviewed.

Out of this number, 316 licenses were cleared of any infractions, while 962 were flagged for irregularities.

Of the flagged licenses, 55 have already been revoked. The remaining 907 are under threat of cancellation if their holders fail to resolve the identified issues within the timeframe set by the Minister.

The report identified documentation gaps, procedural anomalies, and data quality concerns as the main reasons for the irregularities.

To ensure fairness, the Ministry has established a three-member committee to handle petitions and correspondence. This will give affected license holders the opportunity to rectify discrepancies where justified.

The Ministry also disclosed that a similar review of large-scale mining licenses will soon be undertaken, aimed at addressing irregularities and strengthening oversight in the sector.
