Lands Ministry mourns victims of helicopter crash

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has extended its heartfelt condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region.

Calling the incident a devastating moment for the nation, the Ministry described the victims as dedicated individuals who had served Ghana with selflessness and honour.

The fallen included Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture.

Also among the deceased were Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; as well as Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The group had been en route to the Black Park in Obuasi to participate in the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP)—an initiative central to reshaping Ghana’s small-scale mining sector—when the crash occurred.

In a statement signed by Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, Director of Communications at the Ministry, the loss was described as particularly painful due to the absence of Cabinet Ministers Dr. Omane Boamah and Dr. Murtala Mohammed, who were expected to deliver key solidarity messages at the event.

“Their dedication to Ghana’s growth and their unflinching support for responsible mining practices will be remembered with honour,” the statement noted.

The Ministry reflected on the tragedy as a sorrowful halt to a journey born of vision, service, and national progress. It called on Ghanaians to honour the legacy of the departed by continuing the work they began.

“In this difficult moment, we pray for God’s comfort for the bereaved families, and eternal rest for the departed souls,” the statement concluded.

Their memory, the Ministry added, will forever be etched in the nation’s heart and in the cause of service they so fervently championed.
