The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang Madina, Ibrahim Faila, has assured the public that the Assembly has no hidden agenda regarding the Madina-Redco lands following the demolition of squatter settlements.
Mr. Faila explained that the land is believed to be government property, and he is therefore calling on any rightful owners to provide proof of ownership so it can be reclaimed and developed.
He questioned why the land had been left unused for years, creating room for activities he described as undesirable.
According to the MCE, at least six companies have so far laid claim to the land.
He noted that government authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to establish the legitimate owner before any allocation or development proceeds.
The MCE clarified that the recent demolition exercise was not initiated by the Assembly but was an operation directed by National Security.
He said the action was necessary due to rising cases of drug use and prostitution reported within the enclave.
“Why would any rightful owner abandon such prime land to be overtaken by undesirable activities? If indeed it belongs to you, then bring proof and develop it,” he stated.
The demolition, which took place on 12 September 2025, cleared dozens of makeshift structures and shacks that had been erected on the disputed land.
The MCE stressed that once ownership is legally determined, the land should be put to use in ways that serve the community’s interest, rather than being left idle.
