Kwara United confident ahead of CAF Confederation Cup clash with Kotoko

Kwara United General Manager, Mallam Bashir Badawiy, says his side is optimistic about their chances against Asante Kotoko in the preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Nigerian outfit will travel to Ghana for the first leg before hosting the Porcupine Warriors in the reverse fixture. The two-legged tie will determine which team progresses to face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca in the next round.

Speaking to Akoma FM, Badawiy stressed his team’s determination to improve on their last appearance in the continental competition, saying the expectation is for them to do better than the last time they played in the Confederation Cup. He added that they were not there to boast because football is the same everywhere, noting that it is not a war or a do-or-die affair. He assured that the team would try their best to make their fans, supporters, and well-wishers happy.

Reflecting on the changing fortunes in Ghanaian football, Badawiy said there was a time Hearts of Oak dominated, then Kotoko won the league back-to-back. Later, Medeama became one of the best before Kotoko came back again. He added that things change in football and expressed confidence that his team will overcome the hurdle against Kotoko.

The first leg is set for September 19–21 in Ghana, with the return match scheduled between September 26–28 in Nigeria.
