Kwame Opoku nets twice as Asante Kotoko beat Golden Kick FC to win 10th FA Cup title

Asante Kotoko have been crowned champions of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup, thanks to a decisive brace from forward Kwame Opoku.

After falling short in the Ghana Premier League title race, the Porcupine Warriors seized their chance to secure continental football by triumphing in the FA Cup final against lower-tier side Golden Kick FC. The match took place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Kotoko started brightly and took the lead in the 16th minute through a powerful header from Opoku.

Golden Kick, however, responded impressively, levelling the score in the 31st minute with a spectacular free-kick by Bless Ege, bringing the first half to a close at 1-1.

The second half saw both teams push for a winner, and just when it seemed the match would head into extra time, drama unfolded in stoppage time.

Kwame Opoku was fouled inside the box by Golden Kick goalkeeper Kelvin Kofi Saaba, earning Kotoko a last-minute penalty.

Opoku stepped up confidently and slotted home the spot kick, sealing a 2-1 victory for Kotoko and securing the club’s 10th FA Cup title.

The win also guarantees Asante Kotoko a place in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, as they prepare to represent Ghana on the continental stage.
