Government spokesperson and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticised the Ghana Bar Association, accusing it of political bias and hypocrisy over its silence on alleged verbal attacks against a judge by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

In a Facebook post shared on Monday, May 18, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu claimed he had “long dismissed the Ghana Bar Association as an NPP grouping,” referring to the opposition New Patriotic Party.

According to him, the association’s failure to respond to the recent comments involving a judge reflects inconsistency and partisanship in its public interventions on matters concerning the judiciary.

He argued that the GBA would have issued an “immediate, uncompromising response” if similar comments had come from individuals outside the opposition political establishment.

“They have been known to respond quickly to far less offensive commentary by non-NPP members,” he wrote, alleging a pattern of selective engagement based on political affiliation.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further described the association’s silence as “insufferable duplicity,” insisting that it had previously reacted more strongly to what he considered less serious incidents involving individuals outside the opposition.
