Kwahu West MCE blames flooding in Nkawkaw on illegal mining

-

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West, Tamimu Halidu, has attributed the recurring flooding in Nkawkaw and its surrounding communities to illegal mining activities.

According to him, the operations of illegal miners have obstructed the natural flow of rivers and waterways, leading to flooding in areas such as Nkawkaw-Asuogya and Amanfrom.

Mr. Halidu emphasized that effective enforcement of mining laws and regulations is crucial to curbing galamsey activities and preventing further disasters.

He made the remarks during the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, where officers from the Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO educated local communities on disaster prevention and management.
