The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, Tamimu Halidu, has declared a firm stance against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, urging assembly members to take an active role in identifying and reporting such activities within their electoral areas.
According to him, the move forms part of renewed efforts to curb the growing menace of galamsey, which continues to devastate communities including Awenade, Nkawkaw Amanfrom, Jamasi, Awiregya, Apradang, and Yakoko.
Mr. Halidu emphasized that the fight against illegal mining requires collaboration at all levels, particularly from local leaders who are closest to the affected communities. His remarks came during a familiarisation tour of the municipality.
He noted that his directive aligns with calls from President John Dramani Mahama and the Kwawuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, both of whom have launched campaigns to end illegal mining in the area.
During the tour, some opinion leaders in the visited communities shared their concerns with Adom News, expressing hope that the renewed commitment from the Assembly would bring lasting solutions to the galamsey challenge.
