The Kutu Acheampong Foundation (KAF), in collaboration with the family of the late Head of State, General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, held a public lecture in Accra to celebrate his legacy and revisit his lasting impact on national development.

The family commended the government for its renewed focus on agriculture, describing recent crop and poultry farming initiatives as a modern reflection of General Acheampong’s signature Operation Feed Yourself programme.

They said today’s interventions echo the transformative vision he pursued—one that significantly boosted Ghana’s food production until his sudden exit from office in 1978.

General Acheampong is remembered for bold, people-centered policies, including the Dansoman Housing Project and the agricultural revolution that reshaped local food security.

Speaking to Adom News, his son and KAF director, Anthony Kutu Acheampong, acknowledged that while arable land may not be as abundant as it once was, the family appreciates the government’s efforts to revive the spirit of his father’s work under new names and frameworks.

The remarks came during the General Kutu Acheampong Public Lecture at the University of Ghana, held under the theme: “Legacy, Leadership & National Development: Rethinking Ghana’s Journey through the Vision of General I. K. Acheampong.”

The keynote address was delivered by Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional Area and President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.

Anthony Kutu Acheampong emphasized that the Foundation remains committed to preserving and promoting the late General’s achievements, ensuring that his contributions remain a vital part of Ghana’s national consciousness.

General Acheampong assumed power in 1972 through a military takeover and ruled until 1978. Often overlooked in mainstream historical discourse, he is credited with several landmark interventions that shaped Ghana’s socio-economic trajectory.

The Foundation has also pledged continued support for projects aligned with the late Head of State’s vision, such as the recent donation of items to the Weija Leprosarium.
