The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has announced the formal approval of the Standard Player Contract.
The announcement was made at the 31st GFA Ordinary Congress held in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12.
Designed to enhance player welfare and safeguard contractual rights, the Standard Player Contract outlines minimum provisions and standards for footballers’ agreements nationwide.
According to the GFA, the contract aims to create a level playing field between clubs and players, reducing legal disputes by clearly defining obligations on both sides.
Speaking at the Congress, Okraku described the initiative as “the best gift to the Ghanaian game,” highlighting its importance in the sport’s ongoing development.
“In my opinion, this is the best gift to the Ghanaian game — the introduction of the Standard Player Contract,” he said.
“It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I announce the formal approval of the GFA Standard Player Contract, set to take effect from the 2025/26 football season. This development is the product of extensive collaboration between the GFA, PFAG, and all key stakeholders,” he added.
The contract will be implemented across the Ghana Premier League, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and the Access Bank Division One League, marking a new chapter in football governance and player protection in the country.
