Kurt Okraku confident in Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualification hopes

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed strong confidence in the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following a disappointing 2024 campaign in which the team managed just two wins in ten matches, the Black Stars bounced back impressively in early 2025.

They ended a six-game winless streak with consecutive victories over Chad and Madagascar in Matchdays 5 and 6 of the qualifiers.

Ghana secured a dominant 5-0 win against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a solid 3-0 triumph over Madagascar in Morocco. These victories significantly boosted the team’s qualification prospects, propelling them to the top of Group I with 15 points.

Encouraged by the recent turnaround, GFA boss Kurt Okraku remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances on the road to the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

“I have absolute belief that the Black Stars will fight for qualification to the 2026 World Cup,” he told GhOne TV in an interview.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars will take part in a four-nation tournament in London as part of their preparations for Matchdays 7 and 8 of the qualifiers. They are set to face Chad and Mali in crucial encounters this September.
