Kufuor has not been relegated from NPP activities – Nana Akomea replies

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor

Vice Chairman of the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, has cast doubt on suggestions that former President John Agyekum Kufuor is being sidelined from major New Patriotic Party (NPP) decision-making processes.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, July 17, Nana Akomea said he finds it unlikely that such a scenario could occur.

“I do not think it is possible that President Kufuor would not be invited to meetings of these organs,” he said.

He explained that Mr Kufuor is a member of all national decision-making bodies of the party, including the Steering Committee — the primary organ that initiates decisions later reviewed by higher committees.

According to Akomea, the former president has made arrangements for two designated staff members at his office to receive all official invitations on his behalf.

“So, I do not think that the complaint I have heard President Kufuor made has to do with his invitations to the meetings,” he clarified.

Recalling recent events, Akomea noted that Mr Kufuor was absent from the most recent meetings of both the National Executive Committee and the National Council.

He added that during a previous meeting where Professor Mike Oquaye’s report was presented, both former President Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were in attendance, but Mr Kufuor was not.
