Kpebu urges Torkornoo to drop Godfred Dame as legal counsel

-

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called on suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to reconsider her choice of legal representation in the ongoing proceedings concerning her possible removal from office.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Kpebu criticised Justice Torkornoo’s decision to engage former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame as her lawyer in a Supreme Court motion aimed at halting the committee handling the petitions against her.

“Choosing Godfred Dame for this advocacy is inappropriate. He is on record for suborning witnesses and coaching them to lie under oath. It’s not the best choice at all,” Kpebu said.

He questioned why the Chief Justice, given the seriousness of the matter and the wide availability of competent legal professionals in the country, would settle on Dame as her representative.

“You wonder why, out of all the lawyers in Ghana, Chief Justice Torkornoo would pick Dame. It’s simply not on. She should fire Dame,” he insisted.

Kpebu further warned that Dame’s involvement could erode public goodwill and alienate those pushing for transparency in the case.

“This decision could frustrate people who would otherwise support a public hearing,” he added.
