Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has expressed support for a younger generation of leaders to take the helm of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after President John Mahama.

Speaking on JoyPrime TV’s Prime Morning Show on Wednesday, Mr Kpebu said he would like to see Finance Minister Ato Forson or Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emerge as the party’s future flagbearer.

“If we are doing wishes, then undoubtedly, Ato Forson should go or Okudzeto. For the young persons, it is our turn generally to take over,” he said.

He added that while the party’s senior members have served their term, it is time to allow the youth to lead. “If old people have tried, it is okay, let the youth also come in, fresh ideas…”

President John Mahama, who returned to the presidency a year ago, is serving his final term as head of state. While he prepares to retire from high office in 2028, the NDC has yet to present a potential flagbearer for the party.

Mr Kpebu believes that either the Finance Minister or the Foreign Affairs Minister would be the best choice to lead the party in the 2028 general elections.
