The Kpandai constituency erupted in jubilation after the Supreme Court overturned a Tamale High Court ruling that had ordered a re-run, solidifying sitting MP Matthew Nyindam’s position as the winner of the 2024 parliamentary election.

Supporters took to the streets, wearing traditional cloth and blowing horns in celebration.

“It’s a victory for the people!” exclaimed one jubilant resident. “Hon. Matthew has always worked for us, and now the courts have recognized his win.”

The triumph brings a close to a tense and closely contested battle. Crowds gathered at the MP’s headquarters, chanting “Matthew, Matthew!” and waving signs in support. The atmosphere was electric, with party loyalists and well-wishers alike rejoicing at the outcome.

The Supreme Court ruling has brought relief to the constituency, ending weeks of uncertainty and instilling a renewed sense of unity and optimism about the future.

The decision was delivered by a 4-1 majority, with Justice Pwamang dissenting. The majority ruling was supported by Justices Yonny Kulendi, Amadu Tanko, Samuel Asiedu, and Henry Kwofie.

The Court granted the application for certiorari filed by New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Matthew Nyindam, who had challenged the High Court’s authority to nullify his election. Full reasons for the ruling are expected to be released on February 6, 2026.
