Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has downplayed speculation over his future at the club, insisting he remains unfazed despite mounting pressure following recent results.
The Porcupine Warriors were held to a draw by relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in a Matchday 18 fixture, dropping two vital points in the title race. The setback leaves Kotoko six points behind league leaders Medeama.
Ahead of the match, reports suggested the club’s hierarchy was reviewing Zito’s position amid concerns over inconsistent performances. Addressing the rumours after the game, the veteran coach acknowledged the speculation but maintained a composed stance.
“I can’t speak about tomorrow because, as you’ve mentioned, there are reports that management wants me out. These recent results have made the situation more difficult, so if that is truly their intention, then the opportunity has presented itself now,” he said.
However, Zito was quick to emphasise that he has not received any formal communication from the club regarding his job status.
“I am free to go to Nsawam today. Throughout my coaching career, I have never been sacked, and I have neither seen nor heard anything from management suggesting they intend to appoint a new coach. Until the people who brought me here officially ask me to leave, I am not concerned about what is being said or reported on social media,” he added.
Zito will be looking to steady the ship and return to winning ways when Kotoko face Bibiani GoldStars in their Matchday 19 encounter at DUN’s Park on Sunday.
