Asante Kotoko have been hit with a major setback ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, with winger Elvis Kyei Baffour and midfielder Peter Amidu Acquah ruled out for six weeks through injury.

The club confirmed that both players have sustained ankle injuries and will miss the preliminary round clash against Nigerian side Kwara United.

“We have been dealt a double blow ahead of the second phase of our pre-season preparations in Cape Coast, as wingers Peter Amidu Acquah and Elvis Kyei Baffour have both been ruled out for six weeks with ankle injuries. Medical assessments conducted by the club’s medical team confirmed that the duo will likely miss the start of the new season,” a statement from the club reads.

The Porcupine Warriors will host Kwara United in Ghana from September 19 to 21 before travelling to Nigeria for the return leg between September 26 and 28. Victory in that tie would see them face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round.

Kotoko are currently holding the second phase of their pre-season camp in Cape Coast as preparations intensify for the upcoming campaign.
