Kotoko coach Zito downplays result ahead of Toyota Cup clash with Kaizer Chiefs

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has downplayed the significance of the result in their upcoming Toyota Cup clash against South African giants Kaizer Chiefs, insisting the match forms part of the club’s broader preseason preparations.

The Porcupine Warriors are set to face Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, July 26, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 GMT.

Speaking to journalists ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Zito acknowledged fans’ expectations but urged them to view preseason matches in context.

“That is for them (fans) to adopt or for them to acquaint themselves with the situation of football. You can win today, you can lose tomorrow, and you can win the next day,” he said.

The experienced coach stressed that football is not only about results but also about growth and continuous improvement.

“What I like about football is that you always have the opportunity to make amendments or improve upon what you have done.”

Zito maintained that while the outcome matters, it is not his primary focus.

“To me, this is a preparation period for me. And yes, as much as it is important, the result matters, but it doesn’t matter most to me,” he added.

Saturday’s game will serve as a key test of Kotoko’s preseason progress, but for Zito, development outweighs the final scoreline.
