Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, has expressed strong optimism about the club’s chances in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors will represent Ghana in the continental competition after clinching the 2024/25 FA Cup title.
As preparations begin, Nana Apinkrah says the team is drawing inspiration from their recent Toyota Cup victory over South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
“We used less than two weeks to prepare for the game against Kaizer Chiefs and emerged victorious. This serves as a huge motivation as we prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup season,” he said.
He believes beating a team of Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre is a positive sign for Kotoko’s continental ambitions.
“We will be competing with teams like Kaizer Chiefs in Africa, and triumphing over them gives us hope. The referee stood by them in the Toyota Cup, yet we managed to win the trophy.”
Nana Apinkrah added that the club is also counting on spiritual support.
“We only need prayers from Otumfuo, and we believe we can do something better in the competition,” he added.
Asante Kotoko will find out their opponents for the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup on August 12, 2025, when the draw is held in Tanzania.
