Premier Insurance Company has donated 100 wheelchairs to five major public hospitals across Ghana as part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery and improve patient mobility.
The beneficiary institutions are the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), 37 Military Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Sunyani Government Hospital, with each hospital receiving 20 wheelchairs.
The latest presentation was made to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Premier Insurance Company, Percy Asare Ansah, said the initiative forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to support healthcare facilities with essential equipment.
He explained that the company chose some of Ghana’s busiest referral hospitals to ensure the wheelchairs directly improve emergency response, patient movement and overall healthcare delivery.
Receiving the donation, Director of Medical Affairs at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Frank Owusu Sekyere, described the gesture as timely, noting that the hospital attends to more than 2,000 patients daily and continues to face shortages of essential logistics, including functional wheelchairs.
He said the additional wheelchairs will significantly improve patient care and reduce pressure on the hospital’s existing equipment.
Mr. Asare Ansah also encouraged Ghanaians to subscribe to reliable health insurance schemes, stressing that healthcare costs continue to rise and families should be financially prepared for unexpected medical emergencies.
“Health is expensive. Everyone should prepare for emergencies by investing in reliable health insurance,” he advised.
The donations also forms part of activities to mark the company’s 15th anniversary celebration in health insurance delivery in the country.
