Kofi Jumah granted GH₵500k bail

Former GIHOC MD

Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been granted GH₵500,000 bail with two sureties following his arrest by the National Security.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart was granted bail on Monday, June 30, after appearing at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, where he had been held.

CID Director-General, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed the development at a press briefing.

DCOP Donkor explained that the arrest followed an official complaint by GIHOC Distilleries concerning an alleged car theft.

The Ghana Police Service also confirmed the arrest during the briefing led by DCOP Donkor.

She stated that the arrest was made after GIHOC Distilleries lodged a petition regarding the theft of company vehicles by Maxwell Kofi Jumah.

“We received a petition stating that some vehicles belonging to the company were stolen by the said Maxwell Kofi Jumah. He is currently in our custody at the CID headquarters and is assisting with investigations.

“I must add that as of this afternoon, we have retrieved three of the stolen vehicles. He is cooperating fully, and we will proceed with the investigation,” she said.

Mr. Jumah has also been under investigation for alleged financial impropriety during his time as head of the state-owned distillery.

The allegations include questionable acquisition of state vehicles and mismanagement of company assets.

He is further accused of inflating the staff population at GIHOC, placing a financial burden on the company, and selling company properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without proper authorisation.
