Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has criticised Ghana’s existing system of assigning separate Management Committees to each national team, describing the arrangement as inefficient and a setback to the country’s long-term sports development.
For several years, Ghana’s national teams have operated with individual Management Committees responsible for handling administrative and operational duties.
However, Adams believes the structure has placed unnecessary pressure on the government and created avoidable challenges in managing the country’s sporting activities.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, the Buem Member of Parliament argued that adopting a more unified approach would improve coordination and enhance the management of Ghana’s national teams.
“Having separate Management Teams for the various national teams becomes a burden on us and creates so many challenges based on what I have seen and what I came to meet, and I believe that is not the best way to manage our sport,” the Buem MP said.
The Minister acknowledged the need to recognise and reward individuals who contribute to the growth of Ghanaian sports but insisted that such recognition should not come at the expense of efficiency and sustainability.
“There are many other ways of rewarding people, and there are many ways of helping to develop our sports, especially the national teams, than the system that has operated over the period,” Adams added.
Adams revealed that he plans to push for a major restructuring of the current framework, including the establishment of a single Management Committee to oversee all of Ghana’s national teams.
According to him, the proposed reform would help streamline operations, reduce administrative burdens and create a more effective system for developing Ghana’s football and other sporting disciplines.
