
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has reaffirmed its commitment to recognising student achievement, leadership and service with the third edition of the Vice-Chancellor’s Students’ Excellence Awards held at the Great Hall.
Organised under the theme: “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Celebrating Students’ Excellence, Leadership and Service,” the event, spearheaded by the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA), celebrated over 50 students and groups who have excelled in academics, leadership, innovation, volunteerism and creative arts.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, in her opening remarks, emphasized the university’s belief in appreciation as a catalyst for growth.
“Whatever we appreciate will also appreciate back. All we are doing is adding value to you, and we hope that gingers you to want to continue to add more value to yourself and also to others,” she said.
Chairman of the awards committee, Prof. Samuel Amos Abanyie, explained the selection process, noting that the committee worked with units, colleges, and former student leaders to identify well-rounded students making a difference in various spheres of campus life.
In all, 55 award categories across 15 thematic areas were presented, including student leadership, sports, debate, peer counselling, innovation, entrepreneurship, and postgraduate excellence.
The awardee representative gave an acknowledgment in a heartfelt speech.
“Thank you for teaching us how to think boldly, serve selflessly and dream audaciously. You have shaped not only students but pacesetters, pioneers and record breakers,” he stated.
The ceremony concluded with awardees presenting a symbolic trophy to the Vice-Chancellor in appreciation of her support and visionary leadership.
