Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region is set to benefit from a new standard fire station following a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of the project.

When completed, the facility is expected to significantly improve fire safety and emergency response in Kenyasi and surrounding communities within the district.

The sod-cutting ceremony was jointly performed by the Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II (ACFO II) Robert Atta Kumi; the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo; the District Chief Executive, Hon. Hafiz Dauda; the District Fire Commander, Divisional Officer III (DO III) Emmanuel Quansah; and officials of Newmont Ghana.

Speaking at the event, ACFO II Robert Atta Kumi commended Newmont Ghana for its continued commitment to corporate social responsibility, describing the construction of the fire station as a critical investment in public safety.

He noted that the facility would enhance the operational capacity of the Ghana National Fire Service in the area and significantly reduce response times to fire outbreaks and other emergency incidents.

He further emphasised the importance of strong partnerships between public institutions and private organisations in addressing community safety needs, urging residents to support and protect the facility once completed.

The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, expressed appreciation to Newmont Ghana for supporting the project and reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that promote the safety and well-being of his constituents.

According to him, the fire station would bring relief to residents who often experience delays in emergency response due to the distance to existing fire service facilities.

District Chief Executive, Hon. Hafiz Dauda, also welcomed the project, noting that the establishment of a standard fire station would strengthen disaster preparedness in the district and contribute to overall development.

The District Fire Commander, DO III Emmanuel Quansah, said the new facility would enhance fire prevention education, improve emergency preparedness, and ensure rapid response, particularly in an area experiencing growing residential and commercial activities.

Officials of Newmont Ghana reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting its host communities, stressing that the fire station forms part of broader efforts to enhance safety and resilience within the district.

Construction of the fire station is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeline, after which it will be fully equipped and staffed to serve the people of Kenyasi and its environs.
