Spokesperson for the Ken Campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng Frimpong, has dismissed claims that Kennedy Agyapong intends to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that the former flagbearer aspirant remains committed to the party.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Frimpong said Kennedy Agyapong “will never break away from the NPP” and has never contemplated forming another political party.
He emphasised that Mr. Agyapong’s dedication to the NPP remains “unbroken, unshaken, and unchanged,” despite speculation following the declaration of the party’s flagbearer results.
Addressing concerns over Mr. Agyapong’s absence from some recent party events, including the national thanksgiving ceremony, the spokesperson said such concerns were understandable but misplaced, noting that the former Assin Central MP was out of town at the time.
Mr. Frimpong also questioned the assumption that party members are obliged to visit the elected flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, after an internal contest to demonstrate support.
“Not every party member has visited Bawumia at his residence; does that mean they do not support him? Regarding Ken’s absence from the national thanksgiving ceremony, I understand the expectations, as he is a leading member of the party and ideally should be present. However, the truth is that he was out of town,” he said.
