Former Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Member of Parliament, Catherine Afeku, has said New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has more to offer the country than the criticisms often levelled against him.

She emphasised that the campaign team remains focused on securing victory and driving development.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam programme, Mrs. Afeku said Mr. Agyapong, his supporters, and campaign machinery are united around one goal: winning power.

“He is focused, I am focused, and the Ken team is focused on the ultimate goal, and the prize ahead is power,” she said, stressing that the campaign is centred on competence and practical solutions rather than personality debates.

“We are not going to set up a church, and it is not about who is more handsome,” she added.

Mrs. Afeku argued that leadership should be measured by the ability to transform communities. Citing Bawjiase as an example, she asked how value could be added to locally grown cassava so that farmers benefit from their labour.

She acknowledged that all aspirants have weaknesses, noting: “None of the aspirants is without blemish. They all have their faults, but we cannot dwell on that. We need to move past it.”

Reacting to a viral photograph showing Kennedy Agyapong and former Vice President and contender Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a warm handshake, she said it reflected the spirit of cooperation following the internal contest.

According to Mrs. Afeku, if Mr. Agyapong wins the presidential primary, he would be the first to visit Dr. Bawumia to invite him to join his campaign team. “He is that kind of leader,” she said, recalling that after the 2023 primaries, he still supported Dr. Bawumia despite a heated contest.

With the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, the teams of all five aspirants are gearing up to secure victory and lead the party in the 2028 election to reclaim power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
