Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has lauded his players following their hard-fought victory over South African giants Kaizer Chiefs to win the 2025 Toyota Cup.

The Ghanaian side clinched the title after edging the Premier Soccer League outfit 3-2 on penalties at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, following a goalless draw in regulation time.

Speaking to the media post-match, Coach Zito praised his team’s discipline and tactical execution, especially in light of the recent additions to the squad.

“I am pleased with the result and also the performance of my players,” Zito said after the game.

“With the new players, I knew I was not going to get what I wanted, but I assigned them certain responsibilities, and I was looking at it,” he added.

The Porcupine Warriors returned to Ghana on Sunday night and are expected to take a short break before regrouping for the upcoming GHALCA Top 4 tournament, scheduled for August 20–24 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The pre-season competition forms part of Kotoko’s preparations for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season as well as their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
