Karim Zito attributes Kotoko’s FA Cup win to Golden Kick’s fatigue

Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul-Karim Zito has attributed his team’s late winning goal to fatigue among Golden Kick FC players during Sunday’s MTN FA Cup final.

The Porcupine Warriors clinched their 10th FA Cup title with a 2-1 victory over the lower-tier side at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Kwame Opoku emerged as the hero, scoring a header in the 17th minute and later converting a penalty in the 89th minute to seal the win.

Speaking after the match, Zito acknowledged the resistance put up by Golden Kick but noted that their intensity began to fade late in the game — a factor he believes paved the way for Kotoko’s decisive penalty.

“It reached a point, they started getting tired and we started pushing them, so I told my boys it wouldn’t be very easy for us — it’s going to be tough — but at the end of the day, we’ll win,” he told Citi Sports.

“Before the penalty came, they started getting tired… that is the result of fighting your senior brother,” he added.

The win marks Zito’s second FA Cup triumph as a head coach and ensures Kotoko’s return to continental football, booking them a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
