President John Dramani Mahama has nominated a new batch of Ghanaian diplomats, including popular actress Kalsoume Sinare, former La-Dadekotopon MP Nii Amasah Namoale, and ex-Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu.
In total, 15 distinguished individuals have been selected for ambassadorial and high commissioner roles.
Among the appointees are distinguished academics such as former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, and the University of Cape Coast’s first female Pro Vice-Chancellor, Associate Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh.
These appointments, subject to parliamentary vetting and approval, reflect President Mahama’s strategic blend of seasoned politicians, public figures, and technocrats to advance Ghana’s interests globally.
A letter dated June 10, 2025, from the Office of the President and signed by Presidential Secretary Callistus Mahama, PhD, indicated that the nominations were made in consultation with the Council of State, pursuant to Article 74 of the 1992 Constitution.
Veteran actress and former model Kalsoume Sinare has been tapped to serve as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. Known for her decades-long presence in the Ghanaian movie industry and her outspoken support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sinare’s nomination comes amid reports of internal party consultations.
Her cousin, Alhaji Said Sinare—a respected NDC figure and former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia—was reportedly also under consideration for a diplomatic role.
Nii Amasah Namoale, a long-standing member of the NDC and former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, has been nominated as Ghana’s Ambassador to Brazil. Namoale, an agronomist by training, served as a Member of Parliament between 2005 and 2017. His wealth of experience in politics and governance is expected to enhance Ghana’s diplomatic footprint in South America.
Kojo Bonsu, a former sports administrator and ex-Mayor of Kumasi, is also on the list of nominees, representing the blend of leadership President Mahama is assembling for Ghana’s foreign missions.
