The Kofi Anan International Peace and Training Center (KAIPTC), in collaboration with the Netherlands government and USAfricom are organizing a 5-day training course for military personnel in Africa on how to protect civilians during conflicts.

Commandant at KAIPTC, AVM Griffiths Evans told Adom FM reporter, Kwame Kulenu that even though they have not sensed any conflicts, there is the need to give conflict managers training so they are not handicapped in their protection of civilians in such moments.

There are thirty participants from nine countries including Ghana, Niger, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Netherlands.

The Curriculum is developed by the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations.

Ambassador of Netherlands to Ghana Ron Strikker said it was the plan of the Netherlands government to make an active contribution to International Peace and Security.

He urged the UN Security Council to deal effectively with conflicts and wars, not only by developing well-equipped peace missions but also by helping to prevent conflicts in the first place by focusing on its causes.
