Fire officers in the Kadjebi-Akan District of the Oti Region were forced to use a private vehicle as a makeshift fire tender after a blaze gutted a boys’ dormitory at Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School on Tuesday morning.

The fire, which broke out around 9 a.m., destroyed the entire room, including students’ belongings and the roof. Although the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly, its fire tender was out of service and could not be deployed.
Adom News previously reported that six out of eight fire tenders in the Oti Region are currently non-functional. As a result, officers resorted to using a private car, a motorcycle, and fire extinguishers to contain the blaze.
Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong visited the school to assess the damage. He sympathised with the affected students and assured them that the government and the Regional Coordinating Council would provide support.
On the issue of the faulty fire tender, the minister pledged that measures would be taken to repair the vehicle to prevent similar challenges in the future.
